PORT ALBERNI, B.C. — The Prince George Spruce Kings are on a roll in the BCHL.

Tai Ushio scored the game winner just 1:22 in the third period while Colin Reay made 40 saves to lead the Spruce Kings to a 4-3 road win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs Saturday (Jan. 24) night in Port Alberni.

The Spruce Kings got off to a perfect start after River Arnason struck just 48 seconds into the opening period, the only goal in the first 20 minutes at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.

Jackson Lackas evened the score at 3:01 of the second before PG scored twice through Ryan Wachtel and Carter Hesselgrave on the power play – to make it a 3-1 affair.

Alberni Valley’s Wyatt Blace rounded out the second period scoring in the dying seconds as the teams went into the dressing room with a 3-2 scoreline.

Ushio tapped home the game winner on the power play after he connected on a pass cross the crease from Marcus Lougheed. While Brandon Gill brought the Bulldogs within a goal in the final minute, a goaltending interference penalty with 11 seconds left ended the home team’s chances of a comeback.

Alberni Valley’s Owen Lunneborg made 35 saves on 39 shots in a losing effort Saturday.

This is the second time thing season where Prince George has won four in a row, following a five game win streak that ran Nov. 28 to Dec. 5. They’ll look to extend the current streak to five on Friday (Jan. 30) when they host the Surrey Eagles at Kopar Memorial Arena.
