UNBC basketball teams lose to TWU Spartans in Langley

LANGLEY, B.C. — Chalk up two more losses for the UNBC Timberwolves as the faced the Trinity Western Spartans in Langley Saturday (Jan. 24) night.

The UNBC men lost 102-65, as a strong start and 12 points from Chris Ainsley wasn’t enough to contain the 7-11 Spartans. It’s UNBC’s twelfth loss in a row, as they sit in last place in the Canada West Pacific Division with a 2-14 record.

Wesley Ainu’u also shot 5-11 as he added 11 points and a team-high six rebounds for UNBC, while Cairo Wells finished with nine points.

The UNBC women had a strong three quarters at the Langley Events Centre but they also fell off and lost 77-50 last night.

Viktoriia Filatova was 7-19 as she led the 1-15 Timberwolves with 15 points last night. Hazel Phillips added 11 points as Aurora Cabrera finished with 8 points and 8 rebounds, while Claire Huang secured a team-high nine rebounds.

The UNBC women trailed 46-42 after three quarters before the 13-5 Spartans pulled away for the win.

It won’t be east next weekend, as the TWolves head back to Vancouver to face the UBC Thunderbirds on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 30 and 31) to wrap up their road schedule of the 2025-26 Canada West season.

They’ll return home to Brownridge Court for a pair against the TRU WolfPack on Feb. 6 and 7 to conclude the season.
