34 loaded CN cars derail between Prince George and Vanderhoof

PRINCE GEORGE — CN crews are responding to a derailment that occurred at around 10 p.m. last (Jan. 27) night between Vanderhoof and Prince George.

The incident involved 34 cars loaded with coal that derailed in various positions. CN says there are no reported dangerous goods, injuries, or fires.

The rail giant also notes that environmental experts are working with provincial and federal regulators about the incident. The company is also working with local municipalities and first nation communities to coordinate and plan remediation efforts for the river. The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has deployed a team of investigators to the scene. The TSB says its gathering information and assessing what’s happened.
