PRINCE GEORGE – The UNBC Timberwolves Legacy Night VIP event took place Tuesday (Jan. 27) evening at UNBC’S McCaffray Atrium. Among the special guests in attendance was Phil Pritchard. Pritchard is well known in hockey circles as the Keeper of the Cup a position he has held since 1988 but his duties extend much further then that. Pritchard is set to join a panel of hockey stars including Brian Burke, Dan Hamhuis and Eric Brewer for the 11th annual UNBC Timberwolves Legacy Night which will see all four discuss memories from their respective careers.

“I’m looking forward to it and it should be a lot of fun. I know I’m on the panel, but I want to listen more than I want to talk. That’s that’s the cool thing about panel discussions is you never know what the stories are going to be. I look forward to just being here and listening to all those stories .” said Pritchard.

Pritchard’s decades as the keeper of the cup sees him travel approximately 150 days out of the year including the post championship tour that sees him travel to the hometown of every player from the winning team. In addition to those duties Pritchard also has the honor of being the Vice President of the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto which is a duty he doesn’t take lightly.

“I’m the curator at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, so I kind of wear a couple of hats. One is the displays here at the hall and preserving the hockey history the others is being the keeper of the cup, not only the Stanley Cup, but all the major hockey trophies that are out there. I think probably the best way to describe it is if those trophies could talk, each one of them would be a best seller because they’re all part of Canada. They are part of our culture and part of the fabric of what we are as Canadians. The sport is kind of Canada’s gift to the world so to be part of that, I think every day is pretty special.” said Pritchard.

Legacy Night takes place Wednesday (Jan. 28) evening at the Prince George Conference & Civic Centre at 7pm with all proceeds going towards UNBC athletics.
