PRINCE GEORGE — The City of Prince George is reporting another record-breaking year for its building-permit department in 2025.

In a news release, the city says 431 total permits were issued last year with a total value that exceeded $314.5 million. It surpassed 2024’s record of 409 permits issued with a total value of more than $267 million.

According to the data, which will be presented at the Feb. 2 council meeting, there were 78 commercial, industrial, and institutional developments building permits issued along with 76 permits for multi-family developments. Another 277 permits were issued for single-family houses.

The data also shows that the permits issued in 2025 equate to 656 housing units.

“The City has set a record nearly every year since 2018 when it comes to the value of building permits issued,” Deanna Wasnik, the City of Prince George’s planning and development director, said in a statement. “We are extremely pleased to see ongoing development in Prince George and year-over-year growth.

“It’s clear that developers are continuing to see the value of doing business in Prince George, and many of these investments are critical to growing our local economy.”

New institutional permits (more than $108 million), new multi-family development (nearly $66 million), and new single-family dwellings (more than $47 million) were the top three permit categories in 2025.

In August last year, Prince George also met its year one provincial housing target as 284 net new units were completed by the July 31 deadline. The city was tasked with building 273 net new housing units in the first year and it has to build at least 1,803 housing units by July 31, 2029.

A net new unit is defined as one where final occupancy has been issued within the reporting period. It does not include housing units that have been lost through demolition.
