KELOWNA — The Prince George Cougars five-game winning streak come to an end after they were beaten 4-2 by the Kelowna Rockets Friday (Jan. 30) at Prospera Place

Kooper Gizowski and Riley Ashe scored for the Cougars, while Josh Ravensbergen stopped 36 of 39 shots.

Kelowna opened the scoring at 15:32 of a fast-paced first period when Thomas Poletin fired a shot from the left circle that changed direction and beat Ravensbergen.

While the Rockets carried that lead into the first intermission, the Cougars bounced back to take a 2-1 lead. Gizowski pounced on a rebound to make it 1-1 on the power play at 12:40 after Carson Carels’ initial shot was saved by Rockets netminder Harrison Boettiger. Boettiger finished with 26 saves on 28 shots.

Less than two minutes later, Ashe gave the Cougars the lead with his seventh goal of the season, scored on his 20th birthday.

The Rockets responded though Parker Alcos at 17:23 to make it 2-2 after 40 minutes.

Owen Folstrom scored the game winner at 5:43 of the third in somewhat fortunate fashion. His shot from the right circle hit the back boards and redirected off Ravensbergen’s skate and into the net.

The Cougars unsuccessfully pushed for an equalizer, and an empty netter from Keith McInnis sealed the win for Kelowna, who improve to 24-16-4-2. The 2026 Memorial Cup hosts are fifth in the WHL’s Western Conference with 54 points from 46 games.

Prince George (28-17-2-0) remains in third place with 58 points from 47 games.

The Cougars head to Kamloops this evening (Jan. 31) to face the Blazers (23-15-5-4) at Sandman Centre, with puck drop set for 6:00 p.m.
