KAMLOOPS — Kooper Gizowski scored 74 seconds into overtime, while Carson Carels led the way with four points as the Prince George Cougars beat the Kamloops Blazers 4-3 in overtime Saturday (Jan. 31) night.

Terik Parascak had a three point night as the Cougars clawed back from a multi-goal deficit at Sandman Centre for the second time in as many weeks. Prince George (29-17-2-0) is third in the WHL’s Western Conference with 60 points from 48 games.

Power play goals from Nathan Behm and Tommy Lafreniere had the Blazers up 2-0 after the first period Saturday night.

Terik Parascak – who moved into fourth place on the Cougars’ all-time points list – pulled one back at 8:34 of the second period. The 19-year-old Washington Capitals prospect has 239 points to Chase Witala’s 238.

Carels’ first of the night at 1:30 of the third tied the game at 2-2 when he fired a shot from the blue line past Logan Edmonstone. Edmonstone stopped 27 of 31 shots in a losing effort.

While JP Hurlbert restored the Blazers’ lead with less than four minutes to play, Carels scored again at 18:02 to tie the game a second time after Joshua Ravensbergen made his way to the bench for the extra attacker. Ravensbergen stopped 26 of 29 to pick up the win.

Gizowki then finished things off in overtime to give Prince George the 4-3 win.

The Cougars get set to begin a four-game home-stand on Tuesday (Feb. 3) against the Red Deer Rebels.
