Warmer weather leading to more potholes
PRINCE GEORGE – With rainfall dominating recent forecasts the water is causing havoc on city streets. The accumulation of puddles in addition to the plus temperatures are forming potholes across Prince George which are problematic for the many drivers travelling on the City’s roads.
“It is raining once again. We had very mild weather here in the Prince George area over the past week and it’s associated part with atmospheric rivers making landfall along the coast and bringing a lot of warm air and a lot of moisture as well. So we’ve had a lot of precipitation over the past week with a lot of rain and some very mild temperatures.” said Professor of Environmental Science at UNBC Dr. Stephen Déry.
The City is hard at work taking advantage of the warmer temperatures, filling in potholes with 156 filled since January first and they are running 2-3 crews around the clock. They are using a cold mix which temporarily helps to fill the holes which are still problematic but offer a temporary solution until the spring when they can be reevaluated. This current freeze thaw cycle looks to continue well into the future and this means more holes will most certainly be popping up.
