PRINCE GEORGE — The year-over-year unemployment rate in Prince George dropped from seven per cent in January 2025 to six per cent last month.
Statistics Canada says the participation rate – or the percentage of people aged 15 and above looking for work – rose from 67.8 per cent to 69 per cent last month.
There was little change in British Columbia’s year-over-year unemployment rate. It rose from 6 per cent in January 2025 to 6.1 per cent last month.
Nationally, Canada’s unemployment rate was 6.5 per cent, down from 6.8 per cent a month earlier. This despite the fact the economy lost 25,000 jobs. But a decline in the number of people seeking employment was the reason for the drop in the unemployment rate.
