NANAIMO — Nick Bianchi scored twice including the overtime winner to send the Prince George Spruce Kings to the BCHL playoffs.

Bianchi’s efforts helped the Spruce Kings to a 4-3 win over the Nanaimo Clippers Friday (Feb. 6) night at the Frank Crane Arena. It’s two wins out of three for Prince George on their ongoing five game road trip, as they’ve also picked up points in their last eight games going back to Jan. 9.

After a scoreless opening period, the teams found themselves tied at 2-2 after 40 minutes. Denney and Nick Bianchi scored for the Spruce Kings, while Samuel Boisvert and Indiana Grossbard countered for the Clippers.

Tanner Bruender put Nanaimo up 3-2 with a power play goal at 6:30 of the third period, though Ryan Wachtel equalized about five minutes later with his own power play marker.

Evan Bellamy picked up a high-sticking minor penalty in overtime, but Colin Reay made some big saves to prevent the Clippers from capitalizing. Those efforts paid off when Bianchi hammered home the winner to help the Spruce Kings sweep the season series over Nanaimo.

Reay finished with 41 saves on 44 shots, while his counterpart Matthew Hutchinson stopped 28 of 32 in a losing effort.

Prince George heads to Victoria to face the Grizzlies in a 6:00 p.m. start to wrap up a stretch of four road games in five days.
