PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars dropped the first of two weekend games against the Kelowna Rockets as they lost 3-2 at the CN Centre Friday (Feb. 6) night.

Dawson Seitz and Brock Souch scored for the Cougars, while Josh Ravensbergen turned aside 27 of 30 shots in the loss. Prince George (29-19-2-0) remain in third in the Western Conference with 60 points from 50 games.

Connor Pankratz opened the scoring for the visitors Friday night with the only goal of the first period.

Seitz and Souch scored 95 seconds apart in the second to give the Cougars the lead, though their joy was short-lived. Owen Folstrom restored parity just 20 second later at 3:31 as the two teams went into the locker room tied at 2-2 after 40 minutes.

Tij Iginla scored the game-winner on a 5-on-3 power play at 6:29 of the third period to help the Rockets (26-16-5-2) improve to 59 points from 49 games. Kelowna sits fourth in the WHL’s Western Conference.

The Cougars pushed hard in the final minutes with the net empty but Rockets’ netminder Harrison Boettiger stood tall. He was named first star with 31 saves on 33 shots.

The Cougars and Rockets conclude the season series at 6:00 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 7) on night two of Indigenous Weekend at CN Centre.
