PRINCE GEORGE — The curtain has fallen on what’s been a very tough regular season for the UNBC basketball teams.

The Timberwolves finished things off last night with a pair of defeats to the TRU WolfPack at Brownridge Court.

Justin Sunga poured in 24 points, but the UNBC men lost 78-76 to the playoff-bound WolfPack on Saturday (Feb. 7) night. Chris Ainsley and Wesley Ainu’u added 13 points each, while Danilo Gonzalez finished with nine points and seven rebounds.

Miller Davies led all players with 10 rebounds.

In a back and forth game, UNBC took the lead with 37 seconds left on the clock, but TRU rookie Cason Scott knocked in a three-pointer to restore the visitor’s lead. He then swatted away Sunga’s game-tying attempt with just seconds left to seal the win for the WolfPack, who finish with a 12-8 record.

The 2-18 UNBC men – who also lost 77-60 on Friday – finished the season on a 16 game losing streak.

The UNBC women dropped a 65-57 decision to the WolfPack in overtime as both teams were tied at 53-53 in regulation. TRU dominated the extra frame en route to an 8-12 record.

Aurora Cabrera posted an incredible 19 points, 18 rebounds and five blocks for UNBC, while Hazel Phillips and Viktoriia Filatova added 12 points each.

The 1-19 UNBC women also lost 53-44 on Friday – to end the season on a 12 game losing streak.
