Passenger volume down slightly at YXS

PRINCE GEORGE — Passenger volumes dropped slightly at Prince George Airport (YXS) in 2025.

Newly released numbers indicate there were 443,366 total passengers last year, down from 450,494 in 2024 – a year-over-year drop of 1.6 per cent. YXS notes that seat capacity increased by 6 per cent.

YXS says there were no significant air service reductions during the year, which it says means they have more available seats out of the airport to book.

“Passenger volumes remained steady in 2025 despite broader economic headwinds affecting travel across Canada,” said Geoff Ritchie, President and CEO of the Prince George Airport Authority. “Airlines maintained routes and schedules and even expanded capacity in Prince George, which reflects continued confidence in the market.”

Ritchie added “Regional aviation markets tend to reflect broader economic cycles more directly. Despite the softer demand environment, most of which was driven by reduced connecting traffic to the US, YXS maintained a strong route network, improved operational reliability, and continued to work closely with airline partners to support long-term growth. All of which allowed YXS to see less than the forecasted reduction the industry had been expecting at the start of the year.”

The airport says its “focus remains on sustainable service development, passenger experience improvements, and strengthening regional hub connectivity.”
