Cedars Christian wins silver; Duchess Park finishes fourth in BC senior girls basketball provincials

LANGLEY, B.C. — The Cedars Christian Eagles had to settle for a silver medal as they fell 78-62 to the top-ranked Acwsalcta Thunder from Bella Coola in Saturday’s single-A provincial championship game.

The second-ranked Eagles earned their berth in the final with decisive wins over Victoria’s St. Margaret’s School Cardinals (88-34) Wednesday, Kelowna’s Immaculata Mustangs (72-38) on Thursday, and Abbotsford’s Dasmesh Falcons (71-33) Friday.

The fourth-ranked Nechako Valley Viqueens of Vanderhoof then beat the Falcons 61-52 to win bronze.

Nechako Valley beat the Aberdeen Hall Gryphons from Kelowna 42-31 and the Ebenezer Timbers from Smithers 47-33 in the first two rounds, before dropping a 71-49 decision to Acwsalcta.

In the triple-A provincial tournament, the Duchess Park Condors had to settle for a fourth place finish.

The fifth-ranked Condors lost 69-38 to the third-ranked St. Michaels University School Blue Jags from Victoria in yesterday’s bronze medal game at the Langley Events Centre.

The Condors beat Richmond’s R.A. McMath Wildcats 92-35 and Courtenay’s Mark R. Isfeld Ice 62-35 in the first two rounds Wednesday and Thursday. They lost 61-50 to the top-ranked Vernon Panthers in a playoff semifinal on Friday.

Vernon went on to beat second-ranked Langley Christian 71-62 to win the triple-A title.
