Prince George Public Library announces new board chair

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Public Library has announced Jennifer Wilczek will be the new Library Board Chair, taking over the position from Anna Duff, who held the position for the last three years.

“I know there’s some big shoes to fill. The previous board chair has been there for three years, the whole time I’ve been on the board, and we’ve had amazing people on the board and a great legacy to fill. I’m hoping I can live up to everyone’s expectations about leading the board,” Wilczek said.

“Anna has been an excellent leader during her time on the board,” said Library Director Paul Burry. “Her commitment to the values and importance of the public library has been unwavering, and we appreciate her many important contributions to the Board and the library, including helping to expand representation on the Board to include a standing member from the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and the Regional District of Fraser Fort-George.”

Wilczek is very complimentary of Duff’s time as Board Chair, so as the new Chair, Wilczek says she hopes to continue the great work that has been done up to now, adding the Board is luckily in a place where any big shakeups are not needed.

“We have a really excellent board, we’re all engaged right now. I think we’re at a good place that we can continue to move forward. We are not at a spot where we are having to improve a lot of things, and I credit Anna and the rest of the team to get us to this point. So I’m not looking to change too many things, but obviously continue our onwards and upwards trajectory,” Wilczek said.

The Library Board is appointed by City Council, and Wilczek says its job is to guide and support the library through reviewing policies, approving financial decision, and then supporting it through its projects. Among the many priorities the Board has is the “All Hands on Deck” project, focused on making the Library’s deck a more usable space.

“I look forward to working with fellow trustees and staff to continue building on our strong foundation of literacy, lifelong learning, and community connection,” Wilczek said.

On top of three years of experience on the Library Board, Wilczek also brings nine years of experience on the Board of Directors at Integris Credit Union.
