PRINCE GEORGE — Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for a large portion of northern B.C., including the City of Prince George and the surrounding areas.

The warning also stretches into the Peace region and parts of the Cariboo-Chilcotin, with wind gusts of 70 to 90 km/h expected this afternoon (March 7) into tomorrow.

“A vigorous low pressure system passing through northern B.C. will bring strong west/southwesterly winds beginning this afternoon,” the warning said. “The Yellowhead region will see strong northwesterly winds mainly overnight.”

“Wind gusts [may exceed] 90 km/h in exposed areas.”

A wind warning is also in effect for the Fraser Canyon, while a special weather statement is in effect for a large portion of the Southern Interior this weekend.

Environment Canada says local power outages are possible, and they’re urging people to sure all loose objects. High-sided vehicles like semis will also be pushed around by the wind, and people are also being told to watch for possible disruptions to transportation and services and utilities.
