Man sentenced in Queensway shooting death

PRINCE GEORGE —On March 6, 2026, Dakota Rayn Keewatin was sentenced in B.C. Supreme Court to seven years in prison for the shooting death of Davis Smith on Queensway three years ago.

On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, shortly before 9 p.m., Prince George Mounties responded to an altercation at an apartment building on the 1500-block of Queensway. When officers arrived, they found Davis Smith dead.

The Serious Crime Unit quickly took conduct of the investigation and, on April 17, 2023, announced that one count of manslaughter was approved by the B.C. Prosecution Service. Dakota Rayn Keewatin was subsequently arrested by investigating officers while in custody on an unrelated matter.

On October 11, 2024, Mr. Keewatin was charged with second degree murder. On August 19, 2026, following a trial in B.C. Supreme Court, Mr. Keewatin was convicted of the lesser included offence of manslaughter.
