Likes, shares, and care, City’s first social media telethon supports hospice
PRINCE GEORGE – A new kind of fundraiser is happening in Prince George today. It’s a 12-hour telethon on social media to support Prince George Hospice House. Organizers say this is the first event like this in the community, bringing together local businesses, media partners, and residents to raise money so patients can get hospice care without worrying about the cost.
The event runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and aims to revive the spirit of classic TV telethons, but in a modern, digital way. Organizer Jenna Phillips says the idea was inspired by memories of the community coming together for day-long TV fundraisers.
All day long, radio stations, community groups, and businesses are working together to raise money by sharing stories online and asking for donations. Local businesses are a big part of this, and Dave Mothus from Hell Yeah PG says many restaurants and shops around the city are offering creative promotions.
