PRINCE GEORGE — Joshua Ravensbergen stopped 43 of 45 shots to lead the Prince George Cougars to a 3-2 win over the Spokane Chiefs Saturday night at the CN Centre to take a 2-0 lead in their first round playoff series.

Brock Souch scored the game’s first goal – his third of the playoffs – followed by Lee Shurgot’s first. It gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead going into the second period where despite being outshot 23-4, Kooper Gizowksi scored the only goal of the middle frame – his first of the playoffs.

But the game was far from over as the Chiefs made it close. Ethan Hughes scored shorthanded at the 7:23 mark of the third period to make it 3-1 and Tyus Sparks scored with the goalie pulled to make it 3-2 with 2:37 left.

But that’s as close as the Chiefs would get as Ravensbergen made a series of stops late to secure the victory. The announced attendance was 5,933 and Spokane outshot Prince George 45-24.
