Canadiens’ win streak ends with loss to Devils hours after clinching playoff spot
MONTREAL — The Montreal Canadiens fell 3-0 to the New Jersey Devils on Sunday night, ending an eight-game winning streak just hours after clinching a second straight trip to the playoffs.
Jacob Markstrom stopped 18 shots for his first shutout of the season, while Cody Glass and Timo Meier scored for New Jersey (40-24-3), which is fighting to keep its slim post-season chances alive. Connor Brown added an empty-net goal and Jack Hughes provided two assists.
Jacob Fowler made 17 saves for Montreal (45-22-10) after the Canadiens capped an undefeated five-game road trip with a 4-3 shootout win over the Devils on Saturday.
Cole Caufield remained one goal short of his 50th for the second straight game after scoring his 48th and 49th on Thursday against the New York Rangers.
