PENTICTON — The Prince George Cougars scored two short-handed goals in 12 seconds en route to a 6-2 win over the Penticton Vees Saturday (April 11) night.

Terik Parascak and Tyrone Sobry both scored while Riley Ashe was serving a minor penalty for hooking in the first period at the South Okanagan Events Centre. Those goals had Prince George up 2-0 less than seven minutes into the opening period.

The Cougars weren’t done as two more goals from Parascak – his playoff leading seventh goal – and Jett Lajoie made it 4-0 after 20 minutes of hockey. Dawson Seitz made it 5-0 late in the second period, before Lajoie’s second of the night – at 7:49 of the third – put Prince George by six goals.

The Vees then struck twice in about a two minute span through Louis Wehmann and Brady Birnie to make it a 6-2 final, and a 2-0 series lead for the Cougars.

Cougars netminder Joshua Ravensbergen stopped 40 of 42 shots he faced to pick up the win. Penticton’s Andrew Reyelts stopped seven of 11 shots in the first period, before he was replaced by Ethan McCallum, who made 12 saves on 14 shots in relief.

The best-of-seven series shifts to Prince George for games three and four on Tuesday and Wednesday (April 14 and 15) this week. Tickets can be found online here.
