PRINCE GEORGE — The University of Norther British Columbia (UNBC) Timberwolves Men’s soccer team have added Edmonton midfielder Javier Socorro Fox to its 2026 recruiting class.

Socorro Fox is joining the Timberwolves from Next Step Soccer and Louis St. Laurent High School, bringing a strong understanding of the game, leadership, and an impressive academic background.

“Javi is a very cerebral and technical midfield player,” said Steve Simonson.

“He has a great understanding of the game, good vision and awareness and a calmness that will help players around him. As he adjusts to the U SPORTS game, we believe he can become a very good midfield player at this level. We welcome Javi to the Timberwolves family.”

Socorro Fox said the atmosphere during his visit to UNBC in late March helped make his decision to commit to the team.

“What impressed me most was the welcoming environment and the attitude of the players,” shared Socorro Fox.

“The campus felt close-knit, supportive, and focused, and the facilities were excellent. I appreciated how comfortable and welcomed I felt throughout my visit.”

UNBC officials said Socorro Fox takes pride in his ability to control temp and contribute in all phases of play. He earned four goals in his most recent season with Southwest United.

“My goal is to become a competent and disciplined individual who can make a positive impact both professionally and in my community,” added Socorro Fox.

Socorro Fox said his appreciation for the sport came from watching professional players.

“My love for soccer truly grew during the 2014 FIFA World Cup,” said Socorro Fox.

“Watching the passion, teamwork, and joy players showed on the field inspired me deeply and made me fall in love with the game. Soccer has allowed me to build meaningful friendships, meet new people, and challenge myself to raise my level so I can make those around me better as well.”

UNBC Athletics said they are proud to welcome Socorro Fox to the Timberwolves.

“A strong student-athlete, Socorro Fox has earned multiple academic and athletic honours throughout his high school career, including Honour Roll recognition, a Recognition of Excellence in French 10 Award, Team MVP honours in Grade 9, and Most Improved Player recognition with the Louis St. Laurent Soccer Academy in Grade 11,” said UNBC Athletics.
