RCMP step up patrols in parks
PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – The RCMP in Prince George are increasing patrols in parks, campgrounds, and other open spaces after more complaints about large gatherings, noise, and fire safety issues.
Police and RCMP Patrol Volunteers are now more visible in response to reports of parties and bonfires, especially in open pit areas. Many residents say they are increasingly frustrated by frequent disturbances and unsafe fire practices.
The RCMP say concerns grew after several incidents in the Ferguson Lake area, where fires were found smouldering overnight. In another case, patrol volunteers found an unattended fire still burning in the same neighbourhood.
“While bonfires are not a new occurrence, the recent incidents have raised serious concerns as we enter peak forest fire season,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media relations officer for the Prince George RCFire officials, also reminds residents that open burning is not allowed within city limits. Recreational fires are only allowed if they are in a permanent outdoor fireplace or a fire pit no bigger than 60 centimetres across.
