PRINCE GEORGE — One of Prince George’s largest annual celebrations returns Wednesday as residents from across the region gather at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park for Canada Day in the Park 2026.

Presented by Canadian Tire, the event is expected to attract approximately 20,000 people throughout the day. The celebration runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will feature live entertainment, multicultural food vendors, family-friendly activities, games and community celebrations.

Organized by the City of Prince George, Canada Day in the Park has become a longstanding tradition that brings together residents to celebrate Canada’s birthday while showcasing the city’s cultural diversity and community spirit.

This year, organizers have made several changes aimed at improving the overall experience for attendees.

New Layout Introduced

Based on feedback from previous years, the event has been redesigned to better utilize the space available throughout the park.

The updated layout includes changes to the placement of market vendors, food trucks and the popular Kids Zone. Organizers hope the revised design will make it easier for visitors to navigate the event while helping reduce congestion during peak attendance periods.

The expanded use of park space is expected to improve access to activities and create a more comfortable experience for attendees throughout the day.

Transportation Focuses on Reducing Congestion

Parking has traditionally been one of the biggest challenges for visitors attending Canada Day celebrations at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park.

To help alleviate traffic congestion, organizers are encouraging residents to take advantage of alternative transportation options.

A bicycle valet service will once again be available through a partnership with Downtown Prince George and the Prince George Cycling Club. The bike valet will be located behind the bandshell near the flower gardens.

A shuttle bus service will also operate throughout the day. Beginning at 9 a.m., the shuttle will run every 30 minutes between the Civic Centre parking lot and the drop-off location near the intersection of 17th Avenue and Taylor Drive. Service will continue until 6 p.m.

Organizers are reminding motorists not to park along 17th Avenue or Taylor Drive, noting that buses require adequate space to safely load, unload and maneuver.

Diverse Food Options Available

Food is once again expected to be one of the major attractions of the event, with a variety of vendors offering cuisine from different cultures and regions.

Among the vendors scheduled to attend are White Goose Bistro, Rice Bowl, Island Flava, Sushi 97, Meat & Bones Republic, Fresh Slice Pizza, Afro Caribbean Cuisine and St. George’s Ukrainian Food.

Visitors can also enjoy festival favourites including mini donuts, kettle corn, ice cream and lemonade.

Community cultural organizations such as the Chinese Freemason Association, Chinese Benevolent Association and Khali Mandir will also be serving food throughout the day.

Organizers say the wide variety of options ensures there will be something for everyone attending the event.

Entertainment Highlights Multicultural Community

A full day of entertainment is planned on the main stage, featuring musicians, dancers and cultural performers from across Prince George.

The Prince George Community Band will open the festivities at 11 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies at noon.

The remainder of the afternoon will feature a variety of performances, including Big Enuff Big Band, Ivan Paquette, Prince George Pipe and Drums, Fraser Lyric Opera and local artist KIZIAH, who is scheduled to close the event at 5:30 p.m.

Several cultural dance groups will also perform, including the Zahirah Dance Troupe, Northern Spirit Powwow Dancers, Bollywood Dream Dancers, Yalenka Ukrainian Dancers and PG Bhangra Roots.

The diverse entertainment lineup reflects the many cultures and traditions represented throughout the Prince George community.

Family Activities Featured in Kids Zone

Families with young children will once again find a full slate of activities in the Kids Zone.

The area will offer bouncy castles, face painting, crafts, games, popcorn, mini donuts and ice cream throughout the day.

Several local organizations are partnering on the Kids Zone, including Engage Sport North, Two Rivers Gallery, The Exploration Place, the YMCA and the Prince George Chess Club.

Interactive sports programming has also been scheduled throughout the afternoon.

Events include soccer games, volleyball matches and a three-legged race, offering children opportunities to stay active while participating in friendly competitions.

Community Celebration Returns

Canada Day in the Park remains one of the largest annual events in Northern British Columbia, bringing together residents, visitors, community organizations and local businesses.

With thousands expected to attend, organizers are encouraging people to arrive early, consider alternative transportation options and spend the day enjoying the food, entertainment and activities available throughout the park.

From live music and cultural performances to food vendors and family attractions, Wednesday’s event promises to provide a full day of celebration as Prince George marks Canada Day 2026.
