Timberwolves add versatile B.C. standout Oskar Dewar to 2026 recruiting class

For Dewar, the sport’s appeal extends beyond competition.

“I love soccer because it pushes me to improve while also giving me opportunities to compete and work with teammates,” he said. “I enjoy the energy of games, the overall intensity, and finally feeling accomplished after a good game or practice. Soccer has created countless memories and experiences, which is everything to me.”

Dewar said UNBC quickly stood out during his recruitment process, citing both the facilities and the atmosphere on campus.

“I was very impressed by the facilities as well as the welcoming community and environment UNBC had to offer,” he said.

The relationships he built during his campus visit also played a key role in his decision, particularly his interactions with head coach Steve Simonson and members of the Timberwolves roster.

“What impressed me the most about Coach Steve was how welcoming and supportive he was from the start,” Dewar said. “He made me feel welcomed right away and showed a great interest in me both as a player and as a person. The team also stood out because of how friendly they were. They created a great environment that made me feel excited to become part of the team.”

Simonson believes Dewar’s character and commitment make him a strong fit for the Timberwolves culture.

“Oskar made a great impression during his visit, demonstrating the character and commitment on and off the field that fits our culture and overall team approach,” Simonson said. “We are excited to have him join us in the fall.”

Away from soccer, Dewar is an avid mountain biker.

The Timberwolves expect Dewar’s versatility, competitiveness and academic focus to make him a valuable addition to the program as he begins his university career in Prince George.
