Parkwood site to host health services

Northern Health expects that bringing both teams together will improve team-based care and make it easier for people to access services.

The health authority says all services now offered at the Northern Interior Health Unit and the John G. McKenzie Family Practice Centre will continue at the Parkwood location.

Patients do not need to take any action right now.

Northern Health says anyone whose care might be affected by the move will be contacted directly. More information about access, directions, and other details will be shared closer to the move.

The new Prince George Community Health Centre will have two public entrances. Northern Health says the upper entrance will be at the old Hudson’s Bay entrance near the Staples parking lot, and the lower entrance will be through the former China Cup entrance. New signs will be put up at both spots.

This move is part of the ongoing $1.5-billion expansion of the University Hospital of Northern BC. Northern Health says the project aims to improve access to health care across Northern B.C. as the region’s population grows and gets older.

The Early Works phase of the expansion included the construction of a 471-space parkade, which opened in November 2025. After health services move out of the Northern Interior Health Unit building, work on the next phase of the hospital expansion, including the new acute care tower, can begin.

For now, Northern Health says patients should continue using services as usual and watch for further updates as the move approaches.
