Trainer Josie Carroll optimistic Woodbine Oaks winner Luster will run in King’s Plate
TORONTO — Trainer Josie Carroll is very optimistic that Woodbine Oaks winner Luster will run in next month’s $1-million King’s Plate.
Luster won the $750,00 Oaks at Woodbine Racetrack on July 19 in dominant fashion, finishing 5 1/2 lengths ahead of the field in 1:50.99. Moments earlier, gelding Highwaytothemoon captured the $200,000 Plate Trial in 1:52.17.
The Oaks and Plate Trial are key prep events for the Plate and good indicators regarding potential contenders as they’re run over the same distance (1 1/8 miles) and surface (Woodbine’s Tapeta course).
Following the Oaks, Carroll was guarded about Luster’s Plate chances, saying a decision would be made based upon how the filly came out of the race. On Tuesday, the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Famer was pleased with Luster’s post-race condition.
