Northern B.C. shuttle operators eligible for up to $75,000 in provincial funding
PRINCE GEORGE — Passenger shuttle operators serving rural and remote communities across central and northern British Columbia can now apply for up to $75,000 in operating funding through the Province’s Northern Community Shuttle program.
The funding initiative, supported by the Ministry of Transportation and Transit and administered by Northern Development, is designed to help maintain and expand transportation services that connect residents with essential destinations such as health-care facilities, workplaces, schools and training opportunities.
“Affordable and dependable transportation is fundamental to building stronger, more connected communities,” said Mike Farnworth, Minister of Transportation and Transit. “The Northern Community Shuttle program provides practical support to shuttle operators who are delivering essential services across central and northern B.C. By investing in these transportation networks, we are helping ensure people can access employment, health care, education and other important services, regardless of where they live.”
The program provides operating funding for expenses including fuel, staff wages and benefits, insurance, vehicle maintenance, marketing and booking services. Shuttle routes linking northern communities to larger service centres, both within and outside Northern Development’s service area, are eligible. Examples include connections between Ashcroft and Kamloops or Dawson Creek and Grande Prairie, Alta.
