Growth Plans Raise Healthcare Questions
PRINCE GEORGE – As Prince George prepares for what could be a period of significant economic growth, local leaders are asking a critical question: can the city’s healthcare system keep pace if hundreds or even thousands of new residents arrive in the coming years?
Major industrial and resource projects proposed across northern British Columbia have fueled optimism about jobs, investment, and population growth. But while much of the public discussion has focused on housing, infrastructure, and economic development, city officials say healthcare capacity must also be part of the conversation.
The concern comes at a time when many Prince George residents continue to struggle to find a family doctor, while healthcare providers across the province face ongoing staffing shortages. At the same time, work continues on the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia’s new acute care tower, a project expected to expand healthcare services in the region.
