QUESNEL — With the 2026 Cops for Cancer Tour de North just weeks away, riders are preparing to hit the road for an escorted training ride between Quesnel and Williams Lake this weekend.

The training event, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 22, will give residents an opportunity to see the team in action as cyclists build strength and teamwork ahead of the annual fundraising tour across Northern British Columbia.

The Tour de North brings together police officers and emergency personnel who cycle hundreds of kilometres through northern communities to raise money and awareness for children and families affected by cancer. Organizers say the ride is about more than fundraising, highlighting the strong sense of community that exists throughout the region.

“What makes Tour de North special is the people,” said Corporal Jennifer Cooper, media lead for Tour de North and media relations officer for the Prince George RCMP. “Whether it’s a wave from the side of the road, a handmade sign in a small town, or an entire community coming together to welcome the riders, the support we receive from northern residents is truly inspiring. This is more than a bike ride. It’s a celebration of the generosity, resilience, and strong community spirit that defines the North.”

Motorists travelling between Quesnel and Williams Lake on Saturday are advised to expect minor traffic delays as the escorted group makes several scheduled stops along the route.

All times are approximate:

  • No Frills Supermarket, Quesnel 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Windt Road Rest Area, Quesnel 10:10 a.m. to 10:25 a.m.
  • McLeese Lake Rest Area, Williams Lake 12:25 p.m. to 1:10 p.m.
  • Windt Road Rest Area, Quesnel 2:40 p.m. to 2:55 p.m.
  • No Frills Supermarket, Quesnel 4:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to line the route, cheer on the riders and show their support as the team prepares for the full Tour de North later this year.

Organizers say the training ride offers a preview of the dedication and camaraderie that will carry participants through forests, mountain valleys and communities across Northern B.C. during the official tour.

Those wishing to support the cause can learn more about the Cops for Cancer Tour de North, make a donation, or purchase tickets for the Tour de North raffle, which includes prizes such as a 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander, a Victoria getaway and a luxury Whistler weekend.
