FORT ST. JAMES — The BC RCMP Major Crime Unit has taken over an investigation following the death of a 77-year-old man in Fort St. James early Monday morning (Sept.14).

Fort St. James RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 800-block of BC Spruce Road at approximately 2:40 a.m. on Sept. 14. When officers arrived, they found the man suffering from serious injuries.

BC Emergency Health Services transported the victim to hospital in critical condition. Despite life-saving efforts, he later died from his injuries.

Police say the suspect or suspects had fled the area before officers arrived.

The BC RCMP Major Crime Unit is now leading the investigation and investigators are being deployed to Fort St. James.

Staff Sgt. Kris Clark said investigators believe the incident appears to be isolated and targeted. Police are asking anyone with information about the man’s death who has not yet spoken with investigators to come forward.

The investigation remains in its early stages and no arrests have been announced. Further details have not been released.
