Cougars take season opening win on home ice

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars opened the 2026-27 season on a high note when they took down the Penticton Vees 4-1 on home ice on Friday night.

Left winger Tre Peck earned a pair of goals in his WHL debut, including the opening goal of the game at 8:19 in the first period.

Riley Ashe and Peck gave the cougars a 3-0 lead with two goals by the 11:58 point of the second period.

Shortly after, right winger Tyden Bergeson got the Vees on the scoreboard at 13:01.

Late in the third period, centre Lee Shurgot earned the final goal for the Cougars, brining their season opening win to a 4-1 final score.

Cougars goaltender Alexander Levshyn blocked 29 of 30 shots on the net from the Vees, earning him first star of the game for his performance.

Peck earned second star for two goals and Shurgot was given the third star for one goal and two assists.

The Cougars will now look to complete the weekend double header sweep when they take on the Vees again from home ice at CN Centre on Saturday night (Sept 19).
