Legion Helps Veterans Through Poppy Sales
PRINCE GEORGE – On Sunday and Monday, CKPG will be observing Remembrance Day through telling local stories, including how the Royal Canadian Legion helps veterans.
Since 1925, the Royal Canadian Legion has been helping veterans readjust to civilian life by offering support for common struggles like financial stability, difficulty finding housing and mental health issues. one of the biggest ways the legion supports veterans is through the poppy fund, which is made up of the donations that people give in exchange for a poppy.
Margaret Storey President of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43 says “The money we raise from the community is kept in a trust fund and it’s only spent for veterans things, and you know if they need wheelchairs or medical or help to get to Vancouver for a doctor appointment, things like that.”
