A Parade To Remember

PRINCE GEORGE – The Veterans Memorial Ceremony and Parade took place at the cemetery on Sunday, November 4th.

This is the 5th time the Church Parade has been put on and it holds a little extra significance this year being the 100th anniversary of the armistice.

Vice President of the Royal Canadian Legion BC/Yukon Command, John Scott says the ceremony can be emotional for many of those who attend.

“You’ve got a lot of the people who are relatives of the Afghanistan veterans who were lost. All these flags that are out are for the Afghanistan veterans. So we have a big turn out for that as well as of course there are people who have lost loved ones in the second world war and some even from the first world war.”

It’s a tradition that the military always has the church parade before November 11th for the members of the forces to remember the ones they’ve lost.

Following the parade everyone was invited back to the Legion for lunch and a meet and greet with the veterans. Scott says it’s an important part of the day because cadets love to talk to the veterans, learn what happened and ask about their experiences.
