Local Man Stops Alleged Break And Enter

PRINCE GEORGE – On the morning of October 31st, the RCMP were called to the scene of an alleged break and enter on Moyie Street.

It was a typical Wednesday morning for Jim Forbes when he heard noises coming from his backyard. At roughly 8:15 am he headed outside to see what was going on.

“I heard my shed door open because my table is on the other side of the shed there. Heard that open and I thought ‘He’s back!” So I walked to the door quietly, unlatched it and I darted out right here and then I had him pinned in the corner there,” Forbes describes.

Forbes believes the events actually started two days prior to the incident when his girlfriend was leaving for work. After she had left he heard noises inside the home that he believed to be his girlfriend just coming back for something she had forgotten. Later that day he got a call from her asking where their laptop and iPad had gone.

There was no evidence that Jordy Visser-Hayne, the same 22-year-old male that allegedly broke into the shed was the one that stole the electronics. Police say their main concern is public safety and they do not condone anyone taking action into their own hands.

“Violence could’ve ensued and the homeowner perhaps could have been on the worse end of that and certainly, we wouldn’t want that. So please take the time, phone police, let us take care of that sort of thing,” says Craig Douglas with Prince George RCMP.

Forbes, on the other hand, says he wouldn’t think twice if it came down to the safety of his friends and family again.

Visser-Hayne appeared in court on November 1st in Prince George and Forbes is still on the lookout for his laptop and iPad.
