Unemployment numbers are down in Prince George.  The December figures have been released by Stats Canada.  On a year to year comparison, Prince George has seen a 1.2% decrease over twelve months.  Over that time, the local economy has also added an additional 2,300 jobs across the city.
Despite a growth in the labour force and a small growth in the population, the actual number of people who are unemployed has fallen by 500 to 3,100.
The news is similar to the Cariboo region where the rate has dropped 1.1% on a year to year comparison.  However, Stats Canada says about 80,200 people are working in the region, about 800 fewer than one year ago.

Unemployment in B-C dipped two-tenths of a point to 4.6% on a month to month comparison.  BC has the lowest rate in the country.
The national jobless rate dropped to 5.7% from 5.9% in November, to reach its lowest mark since 1976.
