Farmers’ Market Adds Hubspace On Saturdays

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Farmers’ Market has taken over Hubspace on Saturdays to accommodate some of the outdoor vendors over the winter.

The Farmers’ Market became an official society in 1995 in what Cariboo Grower’s Phil Myatovic calls “humble beginnings.” But it is growing each year, which is a common trend across the province. David Connell with UNBC studies the socio-economic impacts of Farmers’ Markets on communities and he says the number of markets has doubled in ten years. He says people are becoming more conscious of what they’re eating and the source of their food. But there more to farmers’ markets than that.

“Farmers Markets are very social. It’s a great place to meet friends and get to know the farmer and get to know the person who’s selling you the food.”

The downtown Farmers’ Market moved to its 2,500-square-foot Third Avenue location this Spring. But there are plans to expand.
