15 Years Strong And Still Growing

PRINCE GEORGE – From fresh smelling soaps to hand knitted toques, the Artisans of the North Fair is home to the region’s most creative artisans.

The hallways of UNBC were busy with more than 100 local vendors over the weekend for the 15th annual fair. Among the handmade crafts, shoppers had 20 new vendors to look forward to this year as well as a few returning favourites.

Marilynn Reyden, of Signature Creations, has been a vendor at this event for years and says her favourite part is just meeting people and sharing her work. Reyden also had a few words of advice for newcomers setting up shop at the fair.

“Don’t be afraid, just relax. If you are passionate about what you do, sell that. The hardest thing I think is pricing your work and it took me many years to feel comfortable with that and that’s what I tell people, don’t be afraid, relax.”

For some first timers, sleep was at the bottom of the “things to do” list when preparing for the big event. Erika Johnson, with Hapa Threads, says she hopes all the time and effort was worth it.

“I would love to sell out. I would love to sleep in, I haven’t slept in so many days. Basically, I like going out and seeing people walking around wearing our stuff. That always gives me the warm fuzzies.”

Both local shop owners say they have plans to come back next year if invited, for the 16th annual Artisans of the North Fair.
