Local Reaction to Trade Deal

PRINCE GEORGE – There are far-reaching effects of the USMCA deal,  and some will impact businesses right here in Prince George.  There is a hopeful feeling when it comes to duties on lumber, steel and aluminum.

Stan Mitchell with KPMG says the proposed deal “gives certainty, that’s an important thing for the economy going forward.”

Mitchell says it’s encouraging that Chapter 19,  a mechanism to resolve disputes involving softwood lumber remains intact.

As for Steel and aluminum tariffs, there still aren’t solid answers.
