Back To School Tips
PRINCE GEORGE- As the summer wraps up, and the new school season is almost underway, parents should help to make the transition back to school easier. Westside Academy principal, Kerri Nava, says students can find it hard to stay awake and alert in those first weeks back to school. She says parents should start putting kids to bed and waking them up earlier to prepare for the big day next week. She also recommends parents start to have discussions about what to expect, especially for those heading into high school for the first time. “Talk through and visualize what’s going to be happening, from your morning routines, into seeing students, into having hypothetical conversations about conflict resolution,” said Nava.
Meantime, parents and students are rushing to get the essential items before the first day. The costs can quickly add up from stationary to new clothes, and book bags. Staples and the Salvation Army aim to make back-to-school less stressful by running their annual school supply drive. Shoppers can add any dollar amount to their purchase at Staples from now until the 12th. All the money will be used by the Salvation Army to purchase supplies and they will be handed out to families in need in our community.
