PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Fire Centre has expanded a prohibition on Category 2 open fires.

Earlier this month, a ban on Category 2 open burning was issued for the Stuart Nechako and Prince George forest districts.

However, effective tomorrow, it will be banned throughout the entire Prince George Fire Centre.

Category 2 open fires are the open burning of any material up to two metres high and three metres wide, and grass and stubbles fires up to 2000 square kilometres.

Camp fires and Category 3 fires are still allowed, however anyone burning a Category 3 fire must register first with the BC Wildfire Service.
