Sacred Heart students enthusiastic about gardening
PRINCE GEORGE— Sacred Heart Elementary School has had their garden for nearly fifteen years. The garden has gone through some updates over the past year, with the help of students.
Each class has their own garden bed and students chose what they planted. Many children have a lot of ‘screen time’, so teachers say shifting to more hands-on activities is refreshing.
“This gives a little antidote of the screen time,” Sacred Heart Elementary Kindergarten teacher Nuala Power says. “It means that they can learn about where their food comes from, learn about where all the plants come from, and how long it takes from the planting of the seed to the actual eating of the food,”
The garden will continue to grow and be taken care of into the summer months. The playground is also undergoing some updates that will be completed by the end of August.
