Belt bearing malfunction evacuates building

Building evacuated by Fire Rescue after reports of a possible structure fire

PRINCE GEORGE–Prince George Fire Rescue responded to a report of a possible structure fire in the 1300 block of 6th Ave, Monday morning.

The call came in at around 7:15 am and 19 firefighters were dispatched.

Residents of the building were evacuated upon arrival. When crews investigated they found light smoke and a slight pungent smell on the first three floors, which was blamed on a belt bearing on the eighth floor that had malfunctioned in the mechanical room .

There were no injuries, and no damage to the building.
