Prince George man facing multiple firearms charges

PRINCE GEORGE — A Prince George man is facing a raft of firearms charges following a recent traffic stop in town.

“During the traffic stop, a passenger in the vehicle was found to be breaching the conditions of his probation, by being in possession of break-in tools,” says Douglass.

“The adult male was advised of his arrest, but refused to cooperate with officers. After a brief struggle, the man was handcuffed and taken into custody.”

He says a search of the suspect found him in possession of ammunition and break-in tools. A search of the vehicle also found rifle magazines one of which was loaded, within reach of the suspect.

“Two rifles, including a full loaded SKS style rifle with a prohibited magazine, were also found in the vehicle. The vehicle was seized as part of the investigation. Several more items, including stolen identification and credit cars were found.”

Douglass says 32-year-old David Michael O’Neill is facing the following charges after he was pulled over near 1st Avenue and Ospika Boulevard at around 12:30 a.m. yesterday (Aug.15) morning:

• Transport a weapon in a careless manner (2 counts)
• Occupy a vehicle knowing there was a firearm in the vehicle (2 counts)
• Possession of a firearm without a licence (2 counts)
• Knowingly possess a firearm without a licence (2 counts)
• Possession of break-in instruments
• Resist arrest
• Possession of a firearm or ammunition while prohibited (3 counts)
• Fail to comply with probation (2 counts)

O’Neill has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance scheduled for next Wednesday (Aug.21).
