How often do you floss your teeth?
PRINCE GEORGE– An online survey on flossing habits found that 45 percent of people stopped flossing due to lack of time.
DentaVox, an online survey service, found that 36 percent of those surveyed don’t make flossing a daily habit, with 13 percent saying they floss after every meal and 45 percent saying that they stopped flossing regularily (2-3 times a week) due to lack of time. According to Michelle Wilczek-Piekarska, a Dentist at Dr. Richard Wilczek’s office in the Victoria Medical building, flossing regularly is important to oral hygiene.
“It’s really the most recommended dental tool for removing plaque from between the teeth,” she said to us in an on-camera interview, “so if we are not flossing our teeth in addition to brushing our teeth, then we are missing about one-third of the tooths surfaces,” leaving behind “quite a bit of plaque.”
And it’s not just plaque build up that can be caused, not flossing regularly leaves people prone to gum disease, and dental cavities. Wilczekn says she believes people don’t floss because it takes extra time, and says that attaching the task to an already daily routine, might be the best way to make it a rock solid habit.
