ACE FOR ASAY

Prince George national team pitcher eyes another World Cup

Things were a little different for Prince George baseball player Amanda Asay and the rest of Canada’s Women’s Baseball team this year. Instead of heading straight to the 2020 World Cup, for the first time in history, a Pan-American qualifier was held due to the amount of teams hoping to go to Worlds. It came down to the wire last weekend for the Canadian crew, but that just makes the big victory that much sweeter. Team Canada learned they’d qualified for the 2020 World Cup before they’d even played their last game, which ended up being an 11-1 win for the bronze medal over host Mexico. Asay allowed one run in the five inning mercy, and after 14 years with Team Canada and a bronze medal at last year’s World Cup, she plans to be there for another shot next summer.
