More curtailments to pulp mill

Canfor’s PG Pulp and Paper Mill will be down for two weeks following its previously scheduled turnaround maintenance. The maintenance is scheduled from Sept. 14 through the 22nd. A Canfor spokesperson says the mill will stay down until October 7.

New Kelly Road School expected to open in fall 2020

The new Kelly Road Secondary is one year away from opening its doors. The building will meet the highest international certification standards for being environmentally friendly.

First day back

Children handed out “Think of me” postcards at Westwood Elementary in hopes to remind drivers to slow down in school zones as children head back to school. Fines for speeding in a speed zone start at $196 and go up from there, depending on speed.

Newly launched wine protects B.C. bears

The Northern Lights Estate Winery and BC SPCA teamed up to launch “The Bear,” a Pinot-Gris-style wine made from fallen apples, from local resident’s apple trees. Northern Lights accepts apples from the community to help deter bears from developed areas. With every purchase $2 go to helping animals in need through the BC SPCA.

London Drugs pharmacies give free condoms: World Sexual Health Day

World Sexual Health Day took place on Septmeber 4th. In light of that and a surge in STI’s across Canada, London Drugs gave out free condoms. The attribution to higher STI rates is blamed on antibiotic resistance, and lack of condom usage.
