Ride-sharing coming

PRINCE GEORGE – Ride-sharing has been a hot topic in the Lower Mainland for some time now, but not so much here.

Not anymore.

An Ontario-based company has applied to the Province to provide ride-sharing in five BC communities, including Prince George. None of the communities in Uride’s application are in the Lower Mainland and there’s a reason for that.

“I’m originally from Thunder Bay which is a fairly small community. These communities have been a little bit neglected when it comes to ride-sharing,” explain Cody Ruberto, CEO of Uride. “Transportation is a major issue in a lot of smaller communities that don’t have access to public transit.”

Ruberto says the Province has set out five to eight weeks to process the application but Uride is looking for drivers in the meantime.

He says the Province’s requirement for a Class 4 driver’s licence is not a deterrent to the company’s plans.

Other than Prince George, Uride has applied to operate in Victoria, Nanaimo, Kelowna and Kamloops.
