Over 150 ticketed in school zone campaign

PRINCE GEORGE —The dangers of speeding in school zones isn’t getting through to some motorists.

Evidence of this was revealed in the results of the Prince George RCMP’s recent school zone enforcement campaign.

The campaign ran from Sept.4 to Sept. 18 and resulted in 154 tickets for speeding in school zones.

Police say one driver was stopped for travelling 110 km /hr in a 30 km/hr school zone. He received a ticket for $483 and had his vehicle impounded for seven days.

Vehicle impounds: 5

RCMP volunteers with Citizens on Patrol also conducted Speed Watch through several school zones where they observed 1,258 vehicles and found 423 travelling over the posted 30 km/hr school zone.

And that’s not all – as RCMP say two commercial trucks were impounded for excessive speed – including one that was travelling 101 km/hr in a school zone.
