Students and staff will wear orange shirts Monday
PRINCE GEORGE–CNC,SD57, and UNBC are recognizing those affected by the residential school system on Sept. 30th.
Orange Shirt Day not only recognizes those affected by Canada’s residential school history but also addresses the need for Canadian’s to learn the history of residential schools and the intergenerational trauma impact on Aboriginal people.
Staff and students are encouraged to wear orange shirts to help start the dialogue around reconciliation. The Aboriginal Resource Centre at CNC’s PG campus has put together an afternoon of entertainment, speakers, and food including bannock and popcorn.
Nusdeh Yoh Elementary School will host an assembly where residential school survivor Godwin Barton will give a speech along with a video presentation and ceremonial drumming.
